Simple fix to silly problem

A client from whose desktop I was removing viruses was using his laptop while I had the computer in the shop. He decided to use a wireless keyboard and mouse that he has in his cupboard, and plugged it in, but the mouse wouldn’t work, so he removed it all again. But now, the laptop was doing strange things, when he pressed the : character, he got +, when he typed P he got 6 and so on. It looked pretty strange, and I got him to bring the laptop down to the shop. While waiting, I looked it up on the web, and someone suggested a solution, which sounded good. So when he turned up, I pressed function F11, which is the NUM LOCK key on this laptop, and everything was good again, time taken two minutes. I don’t know whether he pressed Function F11, or more likely that the plug in keyboard defaulted to num lock on, and when it was removed, the laptop stayed that way, but either way, it was an impressive fix to him!
